So today, we explored Venice... we saw none of the big sights, just ventured off (oh, and I guess we did see Murano). We first headed to the famous San Marcos Square, full of people and dirty
pigeons!! Who's bright idea was it to sell bird seed so you can throw it in the air and have hundreds of disease infested birds land on you??? Not ours... and we did not partake... but we did laugh at all those who did. The bigger the people are... the more afraid of little birds they are!!! We found a lovely little grocery store and bought some some cheese, baguettes and boxed wine for lunch, because neither of us remembered to haul our wine key around Europe!! Surprisingly not too bad.
We decided to get off the boat at an unknown port and walk back to the hotel. We now understand how people get so lost. But thanks to a local map and a little sence of direction, we found our way back to the hotel. With a quick costume change we were headed back out (after a couple beers at the local Irish pub).
We had a great dinner (oh, and a bottle of vino) at a cute little pizzaria (Steve, you were right... the food is totally overpriced, but hey... we ate lunch for cheap). So we leave you as we head to the train station to buy our tickets to Florence and Vicenza. We will be staying with a friend of a friend of a friend... Sarah.
Till then... Co-ni-chee-wa... or whatever...

HEY! I've left comments! You talking to me? :-)
Love to hear the stories. Erin, you ever going to blog again? I love Alicia's prose though. Lots of giggles there. Just miss my daughter's too!
Are you sure it is called a "wash closet". In England its called a "water closet".
I think the funniest thing is that you girls are obviously more comfortable at an Irish pub, anywhere in the world, than a truly "local" pub. Silly girls.
Continue to be safe and HAVE FUN!
Hugs to you both.
Have been enjoying all of the stories- oh my gosh you guys!! We were glad to hear you you didn't step into a canal so late at night!
Alicia, your dad laughed out loud about the maps! DAD says its a good thing about Erin and maps...otherwise you may take after your mom and go the wrong way? He's so funny..........Oh my...........
One question? Did the old woman at the train station look amazed when you both got up and walked away?
Glad You both made it safe and sound to Venice- keep safe and have a great time!! Looking forward to the next chapter!
Love,
Mom
Wow, I have to say I'm like totally impressed that you two are taking the time to blog after a long and tiring day. Thanks for doing it though as it's great to know where you are and what you've done that day.
Hope neither of you started sleep walking while you were in Venice - that first step can be a bit chilling.
Here's a tip I've learned from my time in Europe - whatever you do, don't ask a merchant "how much is that in real money"? For some reason they don't find that at all funny. Of course, I didn't do that - it was someone I was traveling with.
It really sounds like you two are having a great experience and making a fun time of even the things that don't go quite right - good job.
Till your next blog.
Love, Dad
First off, regarding the comment left by dad, I love how dad's first sentence was totally a valley-girl way of speaking! oh goodness, daddy!
Pigeons are nasty, soo good call! I hope that boxed wine wasn't the good ol Franzia.
How is the food from the local grocery stores? is it all americanized? or really authentic? Don't forget to eat all you can while you're over there. You're walking it all off. But most importantly, dont forget to stop eating like that when you come back to the states. Chances are, you wont be walking 10 miles a day and doing 2000 stairs somewhere in there..
Something that would be cool, make note of every picture number in a notebook with a caption.. Just a quick comment about what it is, name of the monument, or even what country it is. That would be a great thing to scrap book with, or even helpful when narrating for us when you come back!
Loves ladies, be safe and have lots and lots and lots (x1000) of fun! ...and beer.. minus that absinth.
Girls! What a wonderful blog. Gramma and I did lots LOL. She sez keep watching out for gypsies. They usually work in twos--one to distract you and the other to get your valuables. So be CAREFUL. Gramma had to slug her way out. Remember Erin?
By the way Erin, the Huskies lost again, this time to UCLA. Thankfully for my disposition, the Seahawks beat the Cincy Bengals in the last minute at Quest Field--things were looking dismal indeed but they eaked it out. Have a lovely time in Florence. A great city.
Grandad and Gramma
Hey! I've been leaving comments!! ;) I'm glad you girls enjoyed your day in Venice! Sounds like a long and busy day. How much longer are you in Venice? Where's the next stop? Stay safe and don't lose those lucky maps of yours!
XOXO
Hey girls, we're missing you! Haven't heard from you for a couple of days. Where are you? Venice still?
Erin - Bella is doing great. She likes to act like she doesn't love us, but I keep catching her purring when we're loving on her. She's even getting so she tolerates the puppies when they come to say hi to her. Funny girl. We love her!
